Moving into the future of digital command and control technology

In the anniversary edition of the trade magazine "Eisenbahntechnische Rundschau" an article by PD Dr.-Ing. habil. Lars Schnieder has been published.

More performance, more quality and more efficiency - these buzzwords describe the demands on tomorrow's railroads. The number of rail passengers is to be doubled by the end of the decade. The competitiveness of rail as a mode of transport in intermodal competition is to be increased in order to shift significantly more freight transport to rail. This ambitious goal will only be achieved if the potential of digital technology is consistently exploited for the railway as a mode of transport.

To achieve this, the command and signalling technology of the future will have to be planned, operated and maintained digitally. In the article by Lars Schnieder, you can find out which standards will be used to achieve these goals and what will be required in addition to further differentiation of the system technology standardization.
