In addition, established industry boundaries are becoming increasingly blurred, resulting in cross-industry competition. This intermodal competition is also affecting the rail industry, which is now competing all the more with other means of transport &#8211; a major challenge in view of the framework conditions in rail transport: extremely long asset life, high complexity, lack of standardization and strong regulation. But the established rail companies are not shying away from these challenges: digitalization is an emerging industry trend.
