Products used in railway applications usually have a very long lifespan. At the same time, however, the lifespan of the used hardware is decreasing. Software, which was once compiled for specific hardware, can be operated using COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) hardware on cloud platforms without any changes by means of the use of emulators. This constitutes a contribution towards solving existing osolesence problems in railway applications.
Arthur Martens, Björn Cassens and Lars Schnieder introduce in their contribution to cloud platforms and show the conditions under which cloud platforms can be used for safety systems in rail traffic. Read their results in the current issue of the trade magazine "Signal + Draht" (6/2020). We gladly provide you with the article free of charge.
